Mission...Who, me?
(May 2004)
Have you ever thought of doing some sort of short term mission in your student holidays? Many objections fly through your mind at this......
- I need to work to pay my student loan
- I have no language skills.....it's bad enough here!
- I'm not a strong enough Christian so I couldn't cope
- It's only for the 'select few'
Jesus' command to go into all the world and all the people groups (Matt. 28:18-20) is to all of us. He equips us with His power (Acts 1:8)
Short-term workers have resulted in amazing results for God.
- The first ever church of Afghan believers in India came into being entirely through Korean women short-termers
- A former Muslim was converted through two YWAM short-termers and is now a Bible College principal
- The impact on Eastern Europe, North Africa and elsewhere in bringing in forbidden gospel literature and showing practical love is immeasurable.
God can and dos use anyone and everyone. We only have to be willing and available to Him. Short-term trips can and will be life changing.
- Show you that God can use you
- Deepen your practical faith in Him as you depend on Him and see Him work
- Allow you to see what is happening in the 'big world'; what are the issues and needs in God's world
- You will return a stronger disciple of Jesus
- It allows you to 'test the water'. Maybe to show you that this is not for you or maybe to release in you something you did not know was there.
If an overseas trip seems a step too far too soon why not consider the multitude of opportunities based at home e.g. SU, CSSM, Baptist Youth teams, Youth for Christ etc etc.
- Speak to your CU leaders about opportunities
- Speak to your local church
At SBC we want to encourage and support you: prayerfully, practically and financially. Do ask us about opportunities and how we can help you.
